Customer Care:
The Uttar Pradesh government had announced a monthly pension of Rs 500 for triple talaq victims in the previous year. The state minority department has initiated the process of identifying the beneficiaries.
Key Points of the Scheme:
- Financial Assistance:
- The Uttar Pradesh government is set to provide Rs 6,000 annually to triple talaq victims.
- Although the budget presented on 19th February 2020 did not allocate a specific fund for this scheme, officials from the minority department confirmed that the funds would be adjusted from other budgetary provisions.
- Re-appropriation of Funds:
- The funds for the scheme are being reallocated from budgetary heads such as boundary wall construction for cemeteries and miscellaneous expenses.
- Shesh Nath Pandey, Joint Director of the Minority Welfare Department, stated that while a government order (GO) is awaited, the department has already conducted a survey across 63 districts and prepared a detailed list of triple talaq victims.
- Surveys from 12 additional districts are still pending.
- Implementation Until Government Order:
- A specific budgetary head will be created once the government order is released. Until then, the department will use re-appropriated funds to support the scheme.
Rehabilitation Package for Triple Talaq Victims:
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a comprehensive rehabilitation package for triple talaq victims. The package includes:
- Annual Pension:
- Affected women will receive Rs 6,000 per annum until they achieve self-reliance.
- Insurance Cover:
- Victims will be provided Rs 5,00,000 insurance coverage.
- Healthcare:
- The children of affected women will be covered under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, along with free legal aid for the victims.
- Employment and Education:
- Educated victims will be offered employment opportunities within government systems.
- Housing Support:
- Women abandoned by their families will be provided houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana or CM Awas Yojana.
- WAQF Property Utilization:
- Efforts will be made to link these women with WAQF properties across the state to enhance their rehabilitation.
Warning Against Abandonment:
CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized that strict action would be taken against Hindu men engaging in second marriages while abandoning or harassing their wives. He stressed that no leniency would be shown in such cases.
